I only have one progress photo this week, but I finished the images on each side of the pyramid! I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, and I ended up adding some lines with charcoal to tie the sides together a little more stylistically. I ended up using a lot of lines in the woman, so I wanted to stay consistent there. I also began actually constructing the pyramid, I caulked some of the small rectangular dowels to the base, so as of the time I'm writing this I am just waiting for that to dry. Hopefully I'll be able to finish that soon and move onto other parts of the project. I'm probably going to scale down my final results with some later touch ups, but I'll see what I can get done.

Over the past two weeks I have made a good chunk of progress on my project. I’ve gotten the paneling cut and am getting close to being done with painting. I still need to finish the money and the drawing of the woman. I’ve been working diligently but I do feel like I may not be able to fully complete this project in the assigned time. I didn’t think the project was being too ambitious, but I may need to scale down my plan or look into extended the time I’m allowing myself to work on it.
Over the past few weeks we worked with guest artist Tommy van Auken on figure drawing. I've always wanted to work more on my figure drawing and this presented a great opportunity. Specifically, I hoped to improve my sense of motion and proportion.
Learning more about searching lines definitely improved my gesture, although the photos here aren't the best examples. I began exaggerating my single movement line more, which allowed the figure to be more dynamic. I'm still not the happiest with my lines, I feel like they don't quite have the necessary energy and perspective required for a figure drawing. Secondly, I wanted to improve my proportion, and I think that showed well in my final drawing. I think I improved by using gestural lines as more of a base to build off of. Although I do think the legs might be a little out of proportion, they just generally seem a little small and short. I'm very happy with my improvement in contour, I think my contour lines improved a lot. My mark got a lot lighter. In the future, I want to continue working with proportion and my sense of movement in my figure drawings. I'm not sure what the best way to improve that is, but it will probably just take more practice. |
